How much does Vyvanse cost without insurance?

Why are costs different for brand-name drugs vs. generic drugs?

Brand-name drugs can be expensive because of the studies needed to test how safe and effective they are.

Makers of a brand-name drug can patent and sell their drug for up to 20 years. When the patent for a brand-name drug expires, other drugmakers can make and sell generic versions. A generic medication is an identical copy of the active ingredient in a brand-name medication. (An active ingredient is what makes a medication work.)

This competition may help keep the costs of generic medications lower. Also, generic medications contain the same active ingredients as brand-name medications. So, they don’t require the same testing, which can be costly.

Can you get $15 Vyvanse?

Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Vyvanse’s manufacturer, previously offered a Vyvanse savings card. With this card and an eligible insurance plan, it was possible that you could pay no more than $15 per refill. However, the Vyvanse savings card is no longer available.

Is there a Vyvanse shortage?

Many ADHD medications like Vyvanse have previously experienced shortages, although manufacturing of these drugs appears to have increased.

Why is Vyvanse being investigated?

In Australia in 2025, an increased number of adverse events related to Vyvanse were reported, particularly on social media, so Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) investigated the drug. The TGA found no safety or quality issues with Vyvanse.
