Alcohol and rosuvastatin

Rosuvastatin has no known interactions with alcohol. But it may not be safe to consume large amounts of alcohol while taking rosuvastatin oral tablet. Doing so can increase your risk of liver damage as a side effect of rosuvastatin.

If you drink alcohol and have concerns about limiting it while taking rosuvastatin oral tablet, talk with your doctor.

Rosuvastatin oral tablet isn’t known to interact with any herbs. But this doesn’t mean interactions with herbs can’t happen or won’t be identified later.

Because of this, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any of these products while taking rosuvastatin oral tablet.

Rosuvastatin interactions with vitamins and minerals

Rosuvastatin oral tablet isn’t known to interact with any vitamins. But the drug may interact with mineral supplements such as magnesium and aluminum. Keep in mind that some multivitamins may contain these minerals.

Taking rosuvastatin with these mineral supplements may lead to low levels of rosuvastatin in your body. This could make rosuvastatin less effective than usual for treating your condition.

Because of this, your doctor may recommend taking rosuvastatin at least 2 hours after consuming magnesium or aluminum supplements. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any of these products during treatment with rosuvastatin.

Rosuvastatin and cannabis or CBD

Rosuvastatin oral tablet isn’t known to interact with cannabis (commonly called marijuana) or cannabis products such as cannabidiol (CBD). But this doesn’t mean interactions can’t happen or won’t be identified later.

As with any drug or supplement, tell your doctor before taking cannabis with rosuvastatin.

When to avoid rosuvastatin

  • Certain liver problems. If you have certain liver problems, taking rosuvastatin oral tablet may worsen them. These problems include acute (sudden) liver failure and decompensated cirrhosis (severe scarring of the liver). Rosuvastatin may cause liver damage as a side effect, and that can worsen these liver problems.
  • Past allergic reaction to rosuvastatin. If you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to rosuvastatin oral tablet, taking it again may cause another allergic reaction.
