Hepatitis E is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis E virus. You become sick when you eat or drink food that has the hepatitis E germ in them. Sometimes, the illness may be severe and then go away on its own. Other times, it may last for a long time. Then it is chronic hepatitis E.
