Meloxicam is typically prescribed to treat pain and inflammation from different types of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile arthritis. Because this medication is an NSAID, your doctor may prescribe it to treat other types of pain.

Meloxicam comes as a pill or an oral suspension. To treat pain from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, most doctors will begin a patient on 7.5 mg of meloxicam daily with a dosage not to exceed 15mg. Meloxicam pills come in 7.5mg and 15mg tablets. The oral solution is to be taken in doses of 5 mL which is equal to a 7.5mg tablet. Patients should not take more than 10mL of meloxicam oral solution daily. Follow instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist. 

Pregnancy: Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking Meloxicam. This medication should especially be avoided in the third trimester.

Interactions: Drugs that may interact with meloxicam include blood pressure medicines, other NSAIDs, aspirin, methotrexate, antacids, lithium, cholestyramine, and warfarin. Alcohol and tobacco can also cause adverse effects.

Medical Conditions: Before taking meloxicam medication, tell your doctor if you have ever had liver or kidney disease, you are allergic to any medications, you have asthma or nasal polyps, you have suffered from a stroke or heart attack, you have high blood pressure, you have had fluid retention, you have chest pain, or you are anemic.
