Fungus, which is a germ, is the cause of yeast infections. These germs live almost everywhere on your body. The germs can be in your mouth and digestive tract. Yeast also grows on your skin, especially on your feet. Most often, your immune system can control the amount of yeast and you stay healthy. If you are sick, the yeast can multiply and cause an infection. The signs of a yeast infection will depend on where the yeast infection is located on your body. You are more likely to get a yeast infection if you are: Taking steroids, antibiotics, or birth control pills Pregnant A diabetic or have high blood sugar A woman who uses feminine washes or douches Not taking good care of your skin and keeping it clean A person with problems with the immune system
