This can lead to an overgrowth of C. diff., which produces toxins that can cause diarrhea.
Symptoms of CDAD may include:
- fever
- nausea
- abdominal pain or cramping
- bloody stool
Certain factors can increase the risk of CDAD with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim oral tablet. These include taking this medication long-term and being hospitalized for a long time.
