How does the dosage of Trulance compare vs. Linzess?
Trulance and Linzess are both approved to treat the following conditions in adults:
- CIC
- IBS-C
For treating CIC or IBS-C, Trulance and Linzess are taken once daily. But the actual dose differs, since Trulance and Linzess have different active ingredients (what makes a drug work).
With Trulance, the dosage is the same whether you’re taking it to treat CIC or IBS-C. But Linzess has different recommended dosages depending on the condition it’s prescribed to treat. You can read this article to learn more about Linzess dosages for treating CIC and IBS-C.
Linzess is also approved to treat functional constipation (FC) in children ages 6 to 17 years. Trulance isn’t approved for this or any use in people under the age of 18 years. Based on animal studies, Trulance could cause severe diarrhea and serious dehydration. Symptoms of dehydration include dry mouth, headache, and disorientation. Animal studies don’t always predict a drug’s effects when used by people.
But due to this risk, Trulance should not be prescribed for use in in children under 6 years of age. It’s also recommended that anyone under age 18 years avoids using Trulance.
