• Recommended dosage: 0.5 to 1 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) per day, split into two doses throughout the day. For reference, 1 kg is about 2.2 pounds (lb).
• Treatment length: 15 to 20 weeks. If needed, your doctor may prescribe a second course of treatment 2 months after the first course.

For example, the recommended dosage of Claravis for someone who weighs 80 kg (176 lbs) is 40 to 80 mg per day, separated into two doses per day. Depending on the severity of the condition, a doctor may prescribe Claravis 20 mg twice per day, 30 mg twice per day, or 40 mg twice per day for someone of this body weight.

You should take Claravis with a meal. You’ll swallow the capsule with a full glass of water.

Dosage of Claravis in children

Claravis is used to treat severe nodular acne in children ages 12 years and older. The recommended dosage of Claravis for children is the same as adults. Dosage will also be based on a child’s body weight, as previously outlined.

You should not take Claravis if you’re pregnant or are planning to get pregnant. It can cause serious and life threatening developmental issues for a fetus if you take it during pregnancy. This can happen even if you take small doses or take the drug for a short period of time. Claravis can also increase your risk of pregnancy loss and premature birth.

Due to this risk, Claravis is prescribed and dispensed through a special program called iPLEDGE. This program ensures that everyone that takes Claravis is aware of the serious risks it has if taken during pregnancy.

The iPLEDGE program requires you to use two forms of birth control one month before, during, and for one month after Claravis treatment. You will also be required to take monthly pregnancy tests.
