Children’s Trokendi XR dosage when used alone

For children ages 6–9 years, the typical dosage schedule is:

  • The recommended starting dosage of Trokendi XR is 25 mg once per day at night for 1 week.
  • If your child responds well to the medication, their doctor may increase the dosage to 50 mg once per day during week 2.
  • Over the next 5–7 weeks, their doctor will increase their dosage by 25–50 mg per week until they reach a maintenance dosage* that’s right for your child.

Your child’s doctor will determine a maintenance dosage of Trokendi XR based on your child’s weight in kilograms (kg). The following table shows the recommended maintenance dosages of Trokendi XR for children ages 6–9 years.

The recommended dosage of Trokendi XR for children ages 6–16 years depends on their body weight. The typical dosage schedule is:

  • The starting dosage is either: 25 mg once per day at night or 1–3 mg/kg of body weight once per day at night.
  • If your child responds well to the medication, their doctor may increase the dosage gradually every 1–2 weeks. The typical increase is 1–3 mg/kg of body weight.
  • Their doctor will increase the dosage until your child reaches a dosage of 5–9 mg/kg of body weight once per day.
  • The maximum maintenance dosage for children ages 6–16 years is 400 mg once per day.
