CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP taking this medicine without first checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including kidney function and hearing tests, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. IT IS IMPORTANT TO USE THIS MEDICINE FOR THE FULL COURSE OF TREATMENT. Failure to do so may decrease the effectiveness of this medicine and may increase the risk that the bacteria will no longer be sensitive to this medicine and will not be able to be treated by this or certain other antibiotics in the future. THIS MEDICINE IS EFFECTIVE ONLY AGAINST BACTERIA. It is not effective for treating viral infections (eg, the common cold). LONG-TERM OR REPEATED USE OF THIS MEDICINE may cause a second infection. Your doctor may want to change your medicine to treat the second infection. Contact your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. KIDNEY PROBLEMS, including reports of kidney failure, have occurred in patients taking this medicine. These kidney problems can occur either during treatment or after treatment is stopped, although they have typically occurred within 1 week after this medicine has been stopped. Contact your doctor right away if you experience decreased urination. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: It is not known if this medicine can cause harm to the fetus. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
