Renvela is prescribed to those with chronic kidney disease who are undergoing dialysis. It is used to prevent hypocalcemia-- low calcium levels-- caused by raised levels of phosphorous.
Renvela is available as a tablet or a powder. The tablet comes in only one strength while the powder has two dosage strengths – 0.8g and 2.4g. The powder is mixed with water before taking. Both forms are taken orally, usually three times a day with meals. The amount taken and the frequency of dosing will depend on your condition and medical profile.
Do not take Renvela if you have a bowel obstruction, severe constipation, a stomach or intestinal disorder, have recently had intestinal or stomach surgery, or have difficulty swallowing. Do not take other medications within an hour prior to or three hours after taking Renvela unless your doctor has given you permission.
