This medicine is an anti-thyroid agent used to treat an overactive thyroid gland in certain patients. CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including thyroid function tests, complete blood cell counts, blood clotting tests (eg, PT, INR), and liver function tests, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. This medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, along with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. SEVERE AND SOMETIMES FATAL LIVER PROBLEMS have been reported in patients who take this medicine. Tell your doctor right away if you notice symptoms of liver problems (eg, loss of appetite, itching, stomach pain, dark urine, pale stools, yellowing of the eyes or skin), especially within the first 6 months after you start this medicine. SEVERE, LIFE-THREATENING BLOOD OR BONE MARROW PROBLEMS (eg, agranulocytosis) may occur with this medicine. This usually occurs within 3 months after starting this medicine but may also occur after this time. Tell your doctor right away if you notice symptoms of infection (eg, fever, sore throat, severe or persistent headache, rash, unusual tiredness or weakness). THIS MEDICINE MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BLOOD CELLS THAT ARE NEEDED FOR CLOTTING. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations where bruising or injury may occur. Tell your doctor if you have unusual bruising or bleeding. Tell your doctor if you have dark, tarry, or bloody stools. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine, especially severe and sometimes fatal liver problems and blood or bone marrow problems. FOR WOMEN: FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
