This medication is prescribed to treat or prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airway diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. ProAir HFA is also prescribed for prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm (wheezing). You must be at least 4 years old to use this medication, unless your doctor recommends otherwise.
ProAir HFA comes in an inhaler form, dispensing as inhalation in aerosol form. There is also an inhalation powder form marketed as ProAir Respiclick. The dosage is 2-4 puffs every 4-6 hours as needed for adults and children 4 years of age or older.
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to albuterol. You should not use the ProAir Respiclick drug if you are allergic to milk proteins. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions to make sure ProAir HFA is safe for you: heart disease, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, a heart rhythm disorder, a seizure disorder like epilepsy, diabetes, overactive thyroid, or low potassium levels in your blood. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing. It is unknown how this medication affects unborn or nursing babies.
