Oxytrol is an antimuscarinic which works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder. Medication is delivered to the body via a patch applied to certain parts of the skin. Patients who have overactive bladder have the urge to urinate too often and experience uncontrollable frequent urination.

Oxytrol is a patch applied to the skin. It is left in place for three to four days. It is suggested that you replace the patch on the same two days each week to ensure that you remember when to remove and replace the patch.

Apply the Oxytrol patch anywhere on your stomach, hips, or buttocks, but do not apply Oxytrol very close to your belly button on the smallest part of your waist. Rotate the placement of the patch, not applying the patch to the same skin without waiting at least a week. Choose a place where clothing will not rub too much against the patch, and try to avoid putting the patch in direct sunlight.

Oxytrol should be applied to clean skin, without any lotion or ointment. Do not place Oxytrol on skin that is wrinkled or has folds.

You may swim and bathe with the patch on, but try not to rub the patch against anything. Do not soak in hot water while the patch is applied.

To apply the patch:

  1. Remove patch from packaging
  2. Peel the first piece of liner off the sticky side of the patch. Leave the second strip of liner.
  3. Not touching the sticky side, press the sticky side of the patch into the chosen place on your body. Press firmly.
  4. Bend the patch and use your fingers to roll the remaining part of the patch onto your skin. Doing this will remove the second liner strip.
  5. Press firmly on the surface.

To remove the patch:

  1. Peel the patch off slowly and gently. Fold the patch do the sticky side are together and discard it somewhere pets and children cannot get it.
  2. Wash the area with mild soap and warm water to remove any residue. Use baby oil if necessary.

Apply a new patch to the new area immediately.
