Neurontin is an anticonvulsant that may be used alongside other medications to prevent seizures in people with epilepsy. It is also sometimes used to treat restless legs syndrome, nerve pain caused by a shingles infection, and certain other conditions causing nerve pain.

As a prescription medication, Neurontin is available in tablets, capsules, or liquid form. Dosages for the tablets are either 600 or 800mg; capsules come in 100, 300, and 400mg strengths, and the oral solution concentration is 250mg/5ml. Individual patient profiles and needs will determine the quantity and frequency of administration of Neurontin. However, do not take more or less of your Neurontin pills or oral solution than what the prescription indicates. 

Pregnancy: Before taking the Neurontin drug, tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are nursing a child. If you become pregnant while taking Neurontin, contact your physician immediately.

Interactions: Do not combine Neurontin with other gabapentin-based medications. Tell your doctor if you are taking muscle relaxants, sleep medications, antihistamines, pain medications, or anxiety medications. Do not drink alcohol while taking Neurontin. Provide your doctor with a complete list of all medications you are taking. Do not take antacids for two hours before or after taking a Neurontin pill.

Medical Conditions: Provide your doctor with a complete medical history. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to gabapentin or any of the ingredients in the Neurontin pills or liquid. Tell your doctor if you have, or have been treated for kidney disease, liver disease, or heart disease. Tell your doctor if you are being treated for epilepsy, or for bipolar or other psychological disorders or conditions. Inform you doctor if you consume alcohol or if you use drugs recreationally.
