CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to any ingredient in this medicine or any ACE inhibitor (eg, lisinopril). IT MAY TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS to receive the full benefits from this medicine. Do not change your dose or stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. LABORATORY AND/OR MEDICAL TESTS may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR FAINTING; alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects. To prevent them, sit or stand up slowly, especially in the morning. Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects. These effects may be worse if you take this medicine with alcohol or certain medicines. Use this medicine with caution. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. IF YOU HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, do not use nonprescription products that contain stimulants. These products may include diet pills or cold medicines. Contact your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. DO NOT USE A SALT SUBSTITUTE or potassium supplement without checking with your doctor. IF VOMITING, DIARRHEA, OR EXCESSIVE SWEATING OCCURS, you will need to take care not to become dehydrated. This could increase your risk of low blood pressure. Contact your doctor for instructions. A PERSISTENT, UNPRODUCTIVE COUGH may occur. Tell your doctor if this occurs. Recovery is usually rapid when the medicine is stopped. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE A SERIOUS SIDE EFFECT CALLED ANGIOEDEMA. The risk may be higher in black patients. Contact your doctor at once if you develop swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; or hoarseness. Although rare, a component of this medicine (amlodipine) has been known to increase chest pain and increase the risk of a heart attack, especially in patients with severe heart disease. PATIENTS WHO TAKE MEDICINE FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal". Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms. THIS MEDICINE MAY NOT WORK AS WELL IN BLACK PATIENTS. Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse. WHILE YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE, brush and floss your teeth carefully. Also, have regular dental check-ups. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: This medicine may cause birth defects or fetal or newborn death if you take it while you are pregnant. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
