This medicine is an aminoquinoline used to treat and suppress certain types of malaria. It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including complete blood cell counts and eye tests, maybe performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. Also, keep all appointments for eye examinations. IF POSSIBLE, preventative measures for malaria should begin 2 weeks before exposure and be continued for 8 weeks after leaving the endemic area. IF YOU ARE TAKING THIS MEDICINE FOR LUPUS OR ARTHRITIS, it may take 4 to 12 weeks for this medicine to work. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE after several months or if they become worse, check with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to this medicine. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR if you notice any muscle weakness or problems with vision or hearing. Your knee and ankle reflexes will be tested periodically. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE dizziness or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. Accidental ingestion of this medicine in children has been fatal. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. In case of an overdose, call a doctor or poison control center right away. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
