hydrochlorothiazide

Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat high blood pressure or to reduce excess fluid in the body. It works by causing you to produce more urine, which flushes out extra salt and water. By lowering your blood pressure, it can reduce your risk for serious health conditions including kidney problems, heart attacks, and strokes.

Hydrochlorothiazide is an oral medication, prescribed in either capsule or tablet form, and typically taken once or twice a day. However, the strength and frequency of dosage depends on the condition being treated and the medical profile of the patient. While larger dosage strengths of hydrochlorothiazide pills may be split into smaller ones, capsules cannot be split, crushed, or chewed. The doctor may prescribe dietary changes to help improve the efficacy of this medication.
