Use your Optum Perks discount card at pharmacies nationwide, from the large chains to small independent pharmacies.
If you have type 2 diabetes, your doctor may prescribe glyburide to help manage your blood sugar levels. The glyburide drug must be taken daily to be fully effective, and while the price per glyburide pill is relatively low, the cumulative cost can start to add up. To save money, enter your zip code in our search tool to check the cost of glyburide at different local pharmacies, and then print or download one of our glyburide coupons to use at the pharmacy of your choice. Much like a discount card, you can use our glyburide coupon every time you fill your prescription—just show it to your pharmacist to have the discount applied at checkout.
Glyburide is used alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise to help keep blood sugar levels from getting too high in people with type 2 diabetes. By controlling blood sugar levels, this medication helps reduce the risk of diabetes complications such as nerve problems, kidney damage, and blindness. It should not be used by people with type 1 diabetes, a condition in which the body is unable to naturally produce insulin.
Generic glyburide is available in 1.25, 2.5, and 5mg tablets. It is important to take it exactly as directed by your doctor; most patients are instructed to take their glyburide dose once daily with their first meal. Your doctor will likely start you at a low dose and gradually increase it as needed.
If you are taking any other medications, especially other drugs for diabetes, tell your doctor before you start taking glyburide. You should also talk to your doctor about your medical history; you should not take this medication if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis or if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking the glyburide drug, and limit your exposure to sunlight. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen when you do need to be outside. If you are taking colesevelam, you will need to start taking it at least 4 hours before or after you take glyburide.
