When anaphylactic shock occurs, there is swelling in the airways as well as bronchial spasms which make breathing difficult or impossible. Epinephrine restores breathing almost immediately and stops dangerous cardiovascular symptoms. Epinephrine may also be used to treat cardiac arrest.
