Duac is applied to the skin to reduce the appearance of mild to moderate acne. By reducing oil production, it helps prevent pores from clogging, and by targeting the bacteria that causes acne, it helps clear up pimples.
Duac is only available in a 45g tube that contains 1.2% benzoyl peroxide and 5% clindamycin. Most people apply this medication twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. However, your doctor or dermatologist may give you different instructions; follow your doctor’s directions carefully.
Benzoyl peroxide has a drying effect, which may cause mild skin irritation. Ask your dermatologist to recommend a moisturizer you can use to minimize irritation. Duac may make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure. When you do need to be outside, wear protective clothing and sunscreen. Very rarely, Duac may cause a severe intestinal condition. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, or blood or mucus in your stools. Before using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have had any intestinal disorders.
