Diflucan pills are prescribed to clear up internal fungal infections, especially those caused by candidiasis. Candidiasis can occur in the throat, vagina, urinary tract, esophagus and throughout the body. Diflucan is also used to treat meningitis caused by Cryptococci.

CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function and kidney function, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. This medicine may cause dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE RARE CASES OF SERIOUS LIVER DAMAGE, including death, mainly in patients with serious medical conditions. Liver damage caused by this medicine has not been attributed to total daily dose, length of therapy, or sex or age of the patient. This type of liver damage may or may not be reversible when this medicine is stopped. Contact your doctor right away if you experience dark urine, loss of appetite, pale stools, severe stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. THIS MEDICINE ONLY WORKS AGAINST FUNGI; it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold) or bacterial infections. BE SURE TO USE THIS MEDICINE FOR THE FULL COURSE OF TREATMENT. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The fungus could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU ARE USING HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL (EG, BIRTH CONTROL PILLS), this medicine may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control (eg, condoms) while you are taking this medicine. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
