The drug Bydureon helps the pancreas produce insulin at normalized levels, which helps control overall blood sugar in patients who suffer from type 2 diabetes. It is most effective when combined with the health-improvement benefits of diet and exercise on a program that has been approved by a doctor.
The injectable drug Bydureon is administered under the skin. Your doctor may show you how to perform injections at home. Inject this drug once every seven days with or without food at any time of day. If necessary, you can change the day of the week on which you administer your dose, but do not inject more than once within three days. Follow all instructions provided by your doctor.
Do not use Bydureon if you suffer from severe kidney disease or are on dialysis. Avoid taking this medication if you have slow digestion, diabetic ketoacidosis, a history of thyroid cancer, or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. If you notice severe upper stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or an increased heart rate, call your doctor, as you may be in the beginning stages of pancreatitis. This medicine is not intended for treatment of type 1 diabetes.
