This medication is used to alleviate certain symptoms associated with allergies, including itchiness, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and cough. It may also be prescribed to assist with similar symptoms caused by the common cold.
Bromfed DM is only available as a cough syrup at a 2mg/30mg/10mg per 5 ml dosage. Always use a dose-measuring spoon or cup to measure the amount of medication. The dose for children between the ages of 2 and 6 years is 2.5 mL, while children between 6 and 12 years of age take 5 mL. Adults and children 12 years of age or older take 10mL. Doses are given orally every two to four hours, but should never exceed six doses daily.
This medication will not assist with breathing problems associated with other disorders, such as asthma or COPD (e.g., emphysema, chronic bronchitis). Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding. Do not take this medication if you've taken an MAOI in the last 14 days. You may not be able to use this medication if you take potassium, if you're asthmatic, or if you have or have had a history of COPD, a cough with mucus, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, an adrenal gland tumor, glaucoma, urination problems, enlarged prostate, or a block in your digestive tract.
