This medicine is an antiarrhythmic used to treat certain types of life-threatening recurrent irregular heartbeat in patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond well to other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

CAUTIONS: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine, including iodine. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO WEEKS for this medicine to work. A response may not be seen for up to 3 weeks after the medicine is started. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including electrocardiograms (ECGs), chest x-rays, lung function tests, liver function tests, thyroid function tests, and eye exams, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, emergency care, or surgery (including laser surgery on the eye), tell your doctor or dentist that you take this medicine. LIMIT ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES while taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, along with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. SEVERE AND SOMETIMES FATAL LUNG OR BREATHING PROBLEMS have been reported with this medicine. Contact your doctor right away if you develop shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing, fever, or cough, or if you begin coughing up blood. Long-term exposure to this medicine MAY CAUSE BLUE-GRAY DISCOLORATION OF THE SKIN, particularly of the face and hands. This effect is not harmful and usually reverses, sometimes incompletely, after the medicine is stopped. Avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun may help to prevent this effect. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE skin reactions similar to serious sunburn or sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths while taking this medicine. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have severe or persistent diarrhea while you are taking this medicine. You will need to take care not to become dehydrated. Your doctor may want you to check your pulse rate every day while you take this medicine. LEARN HOW TO MONITOR YOUR PULSE. THIS MEDICINE STAYS IN YOUR BODY for weeks or months, even after you are no longer taking it. Therefore, caution is advised not only during treatment, but for several months after treatment with this medicine has stopped if you are taking any interacting medicines. CARRY AN ID CARD at all times that says you take this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM TO THE FETUS. If you think you may be pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS FOUND in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
