The prescription drug, Ambien, is only available as tablets. The starting dose is 5mg, while the only other dosage option is the maximum dose, 10mg. It should only be given to adults and is taken as one pill immediately before bed time. You should only take this medication if you will be able to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep.
This medication may make you feel sleepy even after you wake up from a full night's rest, and can even impair your reactions; be sure you're fully awake before you participate in potentially hazardous situations, such as driving. Some people have engaged in activities like driving, talking on the phone, or sex but have no memory of it later while taking this medication; if you experience this, you'll need to find another treatment. Do not take this medication if you've been drinking alcohol. You may not be able to take this medication if you have or have had sleep apnea, lung disorders such as COPD or asthma, kidney or liver disease or disorder, myasthenia gravis, depression or suicidal ideations, or a history of addiction. Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
